    Athletic Trainer:
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Maintain punctual and regular attendance. Must possess a willingness to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holiday breaks

    2. Responsible for giving basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries

    3. Responsible for training, supervising and assessing abilities of student trainers

    4. Responsible for scheduling student trainers for athletic contests and practices

    5. Must ensure that student trainers follow school policies and expectations in the athletic training setting.Responsible for contacting parents and referring athletes with injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment of athletic injuries. Carries out appropriate instructions and treatment as directed by the (athlete’s) physician. Reviews standing orders by physicians yearly

    6. Develops and supervises appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of a physician

    7. Assist to coordinate coverage with the Team Physician for all home varsity football games including postseason contests

    8. Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditioning programs, and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment

    9. Responsible for the initial treatment of all minor athletic injuries and conditions

    10. Responsible for the organization, inventory and requisition of all training room supplies

    11. Submits requisitions for medical equipment and/or supplies to the athletic administrator

    12. Submits an annual budget for all first aid and medical supplies for the year

    13. Must be present for all home games

    14. Must also attend varsity football games both home and away

    15. Responsible for providing care to visiting teams when the away team does not have an athletic trainer

    16. Must attend all football practices

    17. Required to be familiar with and help develop the emergency action plan

    18. Required to communicate and share the EAP with the coaching staff

    19. Must communicate with the athletic administrator to ensure coverage when absent

    20. Responsible for the appropriate documentation of athletic injuries and treatment plans

    21. Knowledge of applicable Agua Fria School District and departmental policies and procedures

    22. Shall remain in the training room until 3:30 p.m. each school day during the winter and spring sport seasons to treat athletic injuries (when possible)

    23. Provides training supervision at all other major home meets, tournaments, etc. (such as softball invitational, wrestling tournaments, track invitational, baseball tournaments, etc.)

    24. Training supervision during school breaks are contracted with the trainer separately

    25. Responsible for the care and cleanliness of the training room

    26. Responsible for pre-game/practice set up including following hydration protocols water and injury ice bags

    27. Reports all injuries to the athletic office on the proper forms and maintains documentation of specific injuries and an annual record of athletic injuries

    28. Shall not be permitted to coach or assist in coaching any sports while serving as trainer

    29. Works with coaches and equipment managers on proper use of equipment

    30. Maintains all equipment and inventories

    31. Accompanies teams to athletic events away from home site, as needed

    32. Knowledgeable of HIPPA and FERPA policies while maintaining confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    33. Ability to take direction from qualified medical providers

    34. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    35. Provides a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

    36. Performs responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

    37. Performs other duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications for this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

    Education / Certificate

    1. Certified Athletic Trainer Certificate and Arizona State license and certification from NATABOC

    2. Valid Arizona Driver License

    3. Red Cross certificate or equivalent

    4. Valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

    5. Possess extensive knowledge of athletic injuries, injury prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation

    6. Current Arizona Athletic Training Licensure

    Experience:

    1. Extensive knowledge of athletic injuries, injury prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation.

    2. Ability to accept responsibility and to exercise initiative

    Communication Skills:

    1.Strong writing, literacy, and communication skills; uses effective communication strategies to interact with a variety of audiences

    2. Bilingual communication is beneficial

    Computer Skills:

    1. Must be proficient with technology (i.e. email, Google Suites, grading software, instructional platforms, etc.)
