    FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt HOURS PER DAY: 8

    WORK CALENDAR: 198 days

    COMPENSATION: Classified Non Exempt Compensation Guide (Starting at $17.52/hour)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. This position provides school health services which assists the child in reaching his/her optimal physical potential. The school medical assistant helps the child acquire knowledge and develop attitudes conducive to healthful living and the prevention of disease and accidents

    Supervision of the nurse assistant will be under the direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN)

    1. Receives and screens incoming students

    2. Maintains all student health files and daily logs

    3. Provides information to students and family regarding current illness or injury

    4. Files reports of suspected abuse/neglect, if initial contact person

    5. Monitors immunization status of current and new students for compliance with Arizona state law

    6. Participates in collecting immunization and hearing data for state mandated reports

    7. Participates in continuing education, workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth

    8. Coordinates and guides persons responsible for student's health to appropriate resources within the community

    9. Maintains medical inventory and utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner

    10. Participates in actions to be taken for eliminating or minimizing the health problems that interfere with student learning

    11. Completes student and employee accident reports and health insurance forms

    12. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures

    13. Maintain cleanliness of the Health Center

    14. Participate in Hearing and Vision Screening

    15. Dispense over-the-counter and prescription medication according to physician’s orders in the absence of the school nurse

    16. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    17. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

    18. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

    19. Maintain punctual and regular attendance

    20. Perform other related duties as assigned



    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications for this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

    Education / Certificate

    1. Must possess a current Nursing Assistant Certificate or equivalent

    2. Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification. A copy must be on file in HR prior to

    3. Must obtain and maintain a Hearing Screening Certificate. A copy must be on file in HR

    4. Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

    Experience

    1. Recent experience in the fields of public health nursing, and/or school nursing is desirable

    2. Must be 21 years of age or older upon hire

    Communication Skills

    1. Must possess good communication skills in dealing with students and the public in general

    Computer Skills

    1. Must possess a thorough knowledge in the use of office machines, computers, and Microsoft

    Office Publications (Google, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

    2. Must have ability to use or to learn to use student information system software as well as other software necessary for the department

    3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus

    4. Regular talking and listening is required

    5. Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, sit
