    JOB DESCRIPTION – Custodian

    TITLE: Custodian FTE: 1.0

    FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt HOURS PER DAY: 8

    WORK CALENDAR: 261 days

    COMPENSATION: Classified Non Exempt Compensation Guide (Starting at $ 16.80/hour)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. This position is responsible for maintaining the school physical plant in a neat and clean condition.

    2. Cleans classrooms, cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, offices, special area rooms, locker rooms, sidewalks and other areas as assigned.

    3. Sweeps, dusts, vacuums, scrubs, waxes, strips and polishes floors.

    4. Washes windows, walls, woodwork, and equipment.

    5. Empties trash receptacles, cleans lockers.

    6. Cleans debris from sidewalks, parking lots, and campus areas.

    7. Records, documents and removes any and all graffiti from campus.

    8. Notifies supervisor concerning need for major repairs to lighting, heating, and ventilation equipment.

    9. Moves furniture and equipment for cleaning and special events.

    10. Replaces light bulbs and performs very minor maintenance.

    11. Reports safety hazards and need for major repairs immediately.

    12. Works with the maintenance crew when school is not in session, as needed.

    13. Monitors attendance and services of other night custodians when assigned.

    14. Complies with Safety Rules and Regulations and satisfies OSHA requirements.

    15. Assists in maintaining appropriate levels of supplies throughout the campus.

    16. Help set up for sporting events.

    17. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    18. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

    19. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

    20. Maintain punctual and regular attendance

    21. Perform other related duties as assigned




    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications for this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

    Education / Certificate

    1. Must possess the ability to read, write and comprehend simple directions

    2. Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

    Experience

    1. Minimum of three years experience in commercial or school custodial work

    2. Must possess skills in the proper use of supplies, tools, and equipment used in custodial work

    3. Must be 21 years of age or older upon hire

    Communication Skills

    1. Must be able to communicate with staff and students.

    Computer Skills

    1. Must possess general knowledge in the use of office machines and computers

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    1. Must be in good health and able to push, pull, or lift weights in excess of 50 pounds

    2. Must be able to carry 15-20 lb. back-pack canister vacuum

    3. Must be able to climb ladders and work in elevated areas
