    Extra Duty Stipend
    **PART TIME

    I. General Description:

    To provide care for athletic injuries. To coordinate efforts with team and family physicians to provide therapeutic rehabilitation in an attempt to expedite the athlete’s return to competition while keeping the student’s mental and physical welfare as the top priority.

    II. Qualifications:

    1. Must possess Certified Athletic Trainer Certificate and Arizona State license and certification from NATABOC.
    2. Must possess valid Arizona Driver License.
    3. Must possess ability to take direction in treatment and training of students.
    4. Must possess knowledge of advanced first aid (Red Cross certificate or equivalent)
    5. Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
    6. Must possess willingness to work flexible schedule.
    7. Must possess extensive knowledge of athletic injuries, injury prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation.
    8. Must possess ability to accept responsibility and to exercise initiative.
    9. Must be able to push, pull, or lift weights up to 50 pounds and be in good physical condition.
    10. Must obtain 80 continuing education hours every three years.

    III. Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
    2. Responsible for giving basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries.
    3. Responsible for training, supervising and assessing abilities of student trainers. Also responsible for scheduling student trainers for athletic contests and practices.
    4. Responsible for contacting parents and referring athletes with injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment of athletic injuries.
    5. Carries out appropriate instructions and treatment as directed by the (athlete’s) physician.
    6. Develops and supervises appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of a physician.
    7. Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditioning programs, and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment.
    8. Is responsible for the initial treatment of all minor athletic injuries and conditions.
    9. Responsible for the organization, inventory and requisition of all training room supplies. Submits requisitions for medical equipment and/or supplies to the athletic administrator. Additionally submits an annual budget for all first aid and medical supplies for the year.
    10. Must be present at all varsity football games and practices, junior varsity and freshman games and is responsible for the home team as well as visiting team athletes. Must be present at all home varsity girl’s and boy’s basketball games and varsity wrestling matches. When scheduling conflicts arise, is responsible for providing qualified coverage for all other practices and contests.
    11. When possible, shall remain in the training room until 3:30 p.m. each school day during the winter and spring sport seasons to treat athletic injuries.
    12. Provides training supervision at all other major home meets, tournaments, etc. (such as softball invitational, wrestling tournaments, track invitational, baseball tournaments, etc.) Training supervision during school breaks are contracted with the trainer separately.
    13. Is responsible for the care and cleanliness of the training room.
    14. Is responsible for pre-game set up including water and injury ice bags.
    15. Reports all injuries to the athletic office on the proper forms and maintains documentation of
    specific injuries and an annual record of athletic injuries.
    16. The trainer shall not be permitted to coach or assist in coaching any sports while serving as trainer.
    17. Works with coaches on proper use of equipment.
    18. Maintains all equipment and inventories.
    19. Accompanies teams to athletic events away from home site, as needed.
    20. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues.
    21. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community.
    22. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner.
    23. Performs other related duties as assigned.
