    JOB DESCRIPTION – SCHOOL COUNSELOR

    TITLE: School Counselor FTE: 1.0

    FLSA STATUS: Exempt WORK CALENDAR: 193 days

    COMPENSATION: Certified School-Based Support Staff Compensation Guide (Starting $49,883)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

    2. Adhere to the ASCA School Counseling Model including completion of the annual ASCA agreement

    3. Use data to develop school counseling program goals and proactively articulate goals to all stakeholders

    4. Collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of school counseling program goals

    5. Conduct annual individual counselor, site-based department and district-based counseling program self-assessments to determine strengths and areas for growth and plan professional development and future goals accordingly

    6. Use data to develop counseling curriculum, small-group and closing-the-gap action plans for effective delivery of the school counseling program

    7. Use data to identify student needs and develop comprehensive counseling programs that are aligned

    8. Use 80 percent or more of time to provide direct and indirect services to students through the school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning and responsive services

    9. Use 20 percent or less of time in program management, system support and accountability

    10. Use and analyze data on program delivery to determine alignment to the ASCA model and student needs

    11. Monitor student academic performance, attendance and behavioral data to inform school counseling program goals

    12. Monitor student academic performance, attendance and behavioral data and work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, TOSA/SOSA, and social workers to create student support plans and interventions, to identify and facilitate access to student resources, to provide support for the student and then follow up to ensure improvement and success

    13. Organizes time, resources, energy and workload in order to meet responsibilities

    14. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    15. Performs responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

    16. Performs other duties as assigned

    Direct Services:

    1. Provide direct student services (school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning and responsive services as defined in the ASCA model and aligned to the school counseling program goals)

    2. Deliver school counseling core curriculum including classroom lessons and large group lessons and presentations

    3. Provide appraisal and advisement to assist all students with academic, career and personal/social planning

    4. Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs



    Indirect Services:

    1. Refer, consult and collaborate on behalf of identified students

    2. Refer students and parents to appropriate school and community resources to support student achievement and success

    3. Consult with parents and other educators to share strategies that support student achievement and success

    4. Collaborate with parents, other educators and community resources to support student achievement and success

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    Education / Certificate
    1. Master’s Degree in alignment with Arizona Department of Education School Counselor Certificate
    2. Certified in School Counseling (formerly guidance counselor certificate).

    3. Current and valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

    Experience

    1. Experience as a school counselor is preferred

    2. Knowledge of the ASCA school counseling model is preferred

    3. Experience conducting both small- and large-group lessons is beneficial

    4. Knowledge of SEL, Suicide Awareness and Prevention, College and Career Readiness is beneficial

    Communication Skills

    1.Strong writing, literacy, and communication skills; uses effective communication strategies to interact with a variety of audiences

    2. Bilingual communication is beneficial

    Computer Skills

    1. Knowledge of Google Suite

    2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office

    3. Knowledge of Student Information Systems

    4. Knowledge of Naviance
