Demonstrates knowledge of the school’s diverse student population through the creation of library programming and collecting resources that represent the needs of diverse learners
Comprehensive knowledge of resources:
Within the library’s collection,
Utilizes a variety of online and electronic resources,
Skilled in accessing information
Actively seeks relevant resources within/outside of the district; including working with the public library to connect students and staff to free resources.
Strives to be familiar with current and classic literature and promotes books, reading, and a love of learning
Demonstrates genuine care and respect for students and staff, and uses praise and positive reinforcement
Establishes a culture of learning by creating an environment that is inviting, flexible, attractive, and conducive to learning
Manages library procedures and physical space through established guidelines to ensure safety and optimize flexibility and accessibility
Communicates clears standards for student conduct, monitors behavior, and responds appropriately to student misbehavior
When teaching, directions and procedures are communicated clearly and effectively
Librarian/ Media Specialist demonstrates and models the effective use of technology and resource tools available to staff and students
Consistently uses open-ended and probing questions to guide students’ inquiry and to help students to think critically as they formulate pertinent questions about their research topics
Engages students in learning through the recommendation of resources that complement the content learning goals
Models flexibility and responsiveness through the employment of diverse strategies to ensure successful learning for all students
Strives to support instructional goals and assessments by providing the necessary resources, technology, and instructional services that are available to support these goals
Actively plans with teachers and groups of teachers in planning and implementing learning activities that integrate the use of multiple resources, the development of research skills, and various literacies
Cultivates and maintains a collection of library and technology resources by regularly assessing the relevancy of, advocating for, purchasing, and weeding resources
Maintains the library catalog
Maintains appropriate records of library materials
Consistently provides technology in an equitable manner and consistently works with the Information Technology department to ensure continuous access to technology for all stakeholders
Remains current in educational technologies and assists stakeholders with the use of these technologies
Engages in reflective practices, evaluating the effectiveness of services, resources, instructional strategies, and facilities to ensure that they are meeting the goals of the library program
Actively promotes the use of the library, library programming, new resources, and services
Solicits feedback and input from the school’s staff and community to improve instruction, programs, and services
Seeks continual growth and professional development opportunities
Manages library personnel by:
Establishing expectations that motivate and guide support staff to perform with initiative and independence
Consistently delegates responsibility and provides training, supervision, and support
Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues
Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community
Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner
Perform other related duties as assigned
A minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience.
Working knowledge of school technology/media equipment
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, students, and parents.
Ability to participate in professional development to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be an educational leader
Displays excellent organizational skills.
Ability to be self directed
Experience in problem-solving, adept at troubleshooting
Ability to be adaptable, flexible and willing to change
Able to manage high stress situations and multiple simultaneous projects/tasks
Strong writing, literacy, and communication skills; uses effective communication strategies to interact with a variety of audiences
Must be able to vary from standing, sitting, or walking
Must be able to lift and carry materials and packages weighing up to 15 pounds
Must be able to move quickly when needed (student safety)

Computer Skills 1. Technical experience with Google Suite 2.
