    TITLE: Paraprofessional III- ESS FTE: 0.875

    FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt HOURS PER DAY: 7

    WORK CALENDAR: 195 days

    COMPENSATION: Classified Non Exempt Compensation Guide (Starting at $18.50/hour)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. To assist the teacher in providing the care, welfare, and safety of the students. Assist in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively. Tutors students with special needs; maintains files and records as directed. Assists students with special physical needs

    2. Assists with learning activities within the general education and/or special education classroom

    3. Monitors classroom assignments given by the teacher

    4. Maintains confidential classroom student files and records

    5. Assists with inventory and accounting procedures of special education classroom materials

    6. Assists with the implementation of instruction modifications per the Individualized Education Plan

    7. Communicates with teachers and parents regarding the students’ needs and progress

    8. Assists with the medical needs of students

    9. Assists teachers during field trips

    10. Assists with student testing

    11. Prepares materials for classroom use

    12. Assists nurse with vision and hearing screenings

    13. May accompany the teacher on home visits or homebound instruction

    14. Assists with oral hygiene and personal hygiene (e.g., change diapers, feminine hygiene, and clothing as needed)

    15. Assists students with feeding as necessary

    16. Positions students from wheelchair to chair, toilet, etc.

    17. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    18. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

    19. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

    20. Maintain punctual and regular attendance

    21. Perform other related duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications for this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    Education / Certificate

    1. Associate of Arts degree or paraprofessional certification required

    2. Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification

    3. Must sign an AHCSS Provider Participation Agreement and obtain a provider number as required

    4. Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card



    Experience

    1. Prior experience working with special needs children desired

    2. Must be 21 years of age or older upon hire

    Communication Skills

    1. Must possess a positive attitude toward students, teachers, staff and parents/guardians

    2. Must possess the ability to take and follow directions

    3. Must be proficient in the use of the English language, both verbal and written

    4. Must possess a warmth and understanding for special needs students

    Computer Skills

    1. Must possess basic computing and clerical skills
