    FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt HOURS PER DAY: 7

    WORK CALENDAR: 195 days

    COMPENSATION: Classified Non Exempt Compensation Guide (Starting at $18.06/hour)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively and to become as independent as possible in the classroom and community. More specifically, this staff member will assist the alternative education instructor in behavior management and daily instruction

    2. Assists with learning activities within the general education and/or special education classroom

    3. Provides before and after school tutoring

    4. Monitors classroom assignments given by the teacher

    5. Maintains confidential classroom student files and records

    6. Assists with inventory and accounting procedures of special education classroom materials

    7. Assists with the implementation of instruction modifications per the Individualized Education Plan

    8. Communicates with teachers and parents regarding the students’ needs and progress

    9. Assists students in the areas of personal hygiene skills, as needed

    10. Assists teachers during field trips

    11. Assists with student testing

    12. Prepares materials for classroom use

    13. Assists nurse with vision and hearing screenings

    14. Participates in the AHCSS Provider Program and completes forms for Direct Services claims

    15. May be required to demonstrate fluency in English: written and oral

    16. May be required to verbally and/or physically redirect student behavior

    17. May be required to physically restrain or run after a student

    18. May be required to travel to perform functions

    19. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

    20. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

    21. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

    22. Maintain punctual and regular attendance

    23. Perform other related duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications for this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

    Education / Certificate

    1. Associate of Arts degree or paraprofessional certification required

    2. Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification within 45 days of hire

    3. Must sign an AHCSS Provider Participation Agreement and obtain a provider number as required

    4. Must complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and specialized training for developmentally disabled students

    5. Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

    Experience

    1. Prior experience working with special education students desired

    2. Must be 21 years of age or older upon hire

    Communication Skills

    1. Must possess a positive attitude toward students, teachers, staff and parents/guardians

    2. Must possess the ability to take and follow directions

    Computer Skills

    1. Must possess basic computing and clerical skills
